Cost Saving Travel Tips
Hotel:
Book your room early to make sure you get the Special Kingdom Advisor rate.
If possible, schedule your travel to arrive Tuesday and depart on Thursday so as to eliminate the need for an extra night at the hotel. We will begin the General Session of the conference at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and will end on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
If so desired, you may choose to share a hotel room with another conference attendee. There are a limited number of double rooms, so booking for this needs to be done as soon as possible. We suggest looking for someone within your local community or study group to share with, but if you are unable to find a roommate please send an e-mail to Tricia.Gleghorn@KingdomAdvisors.org and she will try and facilitate connecting people who desire to share rooms. You will still be responsible for making your own hotel reservation, but Tricia will serve to connect you with someone else looking to share a room.
Transportation: Parking at the hotel is expensive and there are few good alternatives within walking distance. It is advisable to avoid having a car unless necessary.
Plan ahead to share transportation with someone else in your community or study group.
Use the Atlanta Airport Shuttle www.theatlantalink.com. The cost is $16 per person one way, and $28 round trip. Buses leave every 15 minutes. Use Marta (our version of a subway). You can get on Marta at the airport and it is only $2.00 each way. It is not difficult, but it does involve a bit of walking up and down escalators and some stairs. www.itsmarta.com
Airfare: Remember to look into taking flights from all airports within a reasonable driving distance.
Check an aggregator site that gets information from multiple sites to help find the best fare. Farecast is one example and they also provide a prediction as to whether flights for your itinerary will be declining or rising in price in the near future to help you decide if you should buy your ticket now or wait. http://farecast.live.com Fares for February will certainly fluctuate between now and the middle of January, so plan on checking often or set a fare alert with a travel search engine.
Check multiple traditional search engine sites, but keep in mind most of them charge a small fee to book your tickets through them. You may want to use the site to find the best airlines for your itinerary and then go directly to the airlines website to avoid the fee, and to also see if the airline website is running any other specials. Most of the airline websites are now offering comparable fares to what you find on the traditional search engines such as, www.travelocity.com, www.orbitz.com, or www.expedia.com. If fares are the same between the airlines websites and a service like the one mentioned above, it would be advisable to purchase your ticket directly from the airlines. If you need to make a change, or have some type of trouble with your flight, it is often easier to work with a ticket purchased directly from the airlines. Read the fine print in any special deals!
