Attorney Community Group Launched!
The Kingdom Advisors Attorneys Community Group (ACG) officially launched at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 in the International F ballroom at the Kingdom Advisors 2008 Annual Conference.
The ACG stated objectives are to: 1. Connect Kingdom Advisors’ attorneys to collaborate and share best practices as they apply Biblical wisdom in the advice given to clients; and 2. To provide an opportunity for attorneys to sharpen their skills by sharing tools and techniques with one another.
Leadership Team Introduced
The Leadership Team for the ACG consists of Michael King and Mick Cummins. Both are on staff with the National Christian Foundation. Let's meet Michael and Mick.
Michael serves NCF donors and constituents by providing estate, gift and trust planning information and resources that enable donors to maximize the amount and impact of their charitable giving. In addition to working directly with donors, he also works closely with churches and ministries, professional advisors, and Local Christian Foundation affiliates to leverage the effectiveness with which they serve their constituents. Prior to joining NCF, Michael spent over ten years with the international accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche in Los Angeles and Cincinnati, and a wealth management firm/multi-family office in Palm Beach, Florida. In these roles he advised and consulted with families on a broad range of wealth management issues including both financial and non-financial aspects of wealth. Michael received his undergraduate degree from Penn State University, and his law degree from the U.C.L.A. School of Law. He is an allied attorney with the Alliance Defense Fund, a qualified member of Kingdom Advisors, and a founding member of the Gift, Estate and Trust Section of the Christian Legal Society. Michael and his wife, Tammy, were high school sweethearts and have been abundantly blessed with four high energy children.

Mick oversees the delivery of gift planning services for the Foundation, after previously managing the gift planning programs at Emory University, The University of Texas at Austin and the University of Missouri-Columbia. Prior to entering the field of gift planning, Mick spent 16 years divided between practicing law as an estate planner and managing small bank trust departments. He earned his B.A. from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, his J.D. from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and is a member of the Missouri, Illinois and Iowa Bar Associations. Mick and his wife, Pam, have been married for over 30 years, have three adult children and were blessed in April 2006 with their first grandchild.

Your Assistance Please
Should you peruse the membership rolls of Kingdom Advisors it becomes readily apparent that "financial advisors" constitute the overwhelming majority. Not surprisingly, beyond the core training in Biblical wisdom, the lion's share of programs and services are geared toward financial advisors and their practices. If you could design, from scratch, programs and services for the Attorney Community Group (ACG), what would they look like? Would you like to collaborate and share best practices in the application of Biblical wisdom in the advice given to clients? What skills would you like to sharpen and what tools/techniques would you like to learn?
Here are some random ideas to stimulate your feedback to Michael and Mick:
- What Biblical wisdom do you seek to impart to clients and referral sources?
- How do you encourage "generosity" in clients (especially when they will be "taken" from the "assets under management" from which your secular referral source derives his or her compensation)?
- Do you encourage clients to include a "Testament" as part of their Wills and Trusts? Click here for a sample of what I use.
- What tools and techniques have you found helpful to winsomely share your faith with clients and referral sources?
- If you were put on trial for being a Christian Attorney, what evidence would there be to convict you?
- What would you like to see this Attorney Affinity Group become?
- Are you interested in communicating with one another via this web page in a listserv-type of format?
- Are you interested in a knowledge base with downloadable/uploadable documents, etc.?
- Anything else you would like to field for discussion?
